Bugtungan Time: It's time for Tagalog riddles

Mag-ingay na at Bagong Taon na.

Make noise as it's already a New Year.

Like I said in my previous blog entry, riddles are common in Tagalog language or even in other languages for that matter.  They provide entertainment and amusement to people.   Tagalog language is very rich with riddles.  A riddle is called 'bugtong' in Tagalog.   The fun is in making the riddle very catchy, funny and rythmic.  Meaning it follows some rules, like the number of syllables and the ending words should rhyme.  So it is really challenging to both the one giving the riddle and to the one trying to answer it.  There is a satisfaction gained upon getting the right answer.

So here is a 'bugtong' for you guys.

Hinila ko ang baging, nag-ingay ang matsing.

For the English translation:

When I pulled the vine, the monkey became noisy.
